Q. What is the earned income tax (EIT)?

A. The EIT is a 1% tax on compensation and net profits earned by individuals who live in New Hope or who work in New Hope and pay no earned income tax at their place of residence.

Q. How did the earned income tax (EIT) come about?

A. In 2002 Solebury Township approved 1% EIT. By law the New Hope Solebury School Board could split this tax with Solebury. The School Board opted to do so and, since we share the schools with Solebury, the 1% tax was automatically imposed on New Hope residents as well. Although the New Hope Council opposed this tax at every step, we opted to claim our half of the school's existing tax so we can insure that it is used to benefit our residents by lowering property taxes and providing other services.

Q. If I already pay the EIT, say to Doylestown, do I now pay it twice?

A. No, instead of the tax going to Doylestown, it will now come to New Hope and the school district.

Q. Why is more than one motorcycle allowed to park in one space?

A. State law was changed to allow as many vehicles as can fit within a space to park there. The good news is that if there is a parking violation, they all get a ticket.

Q. What are Borough Office Hours?

A. 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. weekdays. For building and zoning inspections, please call 48 hours in advance for scheduling.

Q. Who provides trash collection in the Borough?

Q. How do you dispose of deer and other dead wild animals?

Q. Where can I park in New Hope?

Q. Why are most of the stores closed early in the week?

A. All stores are privately owned and operated and set their own hours. Contact the Visitors' Center at 215 862 5030 for additional information.

Q. Where can I find a restroom?

A. All restaurants in town are required to provide restrooms for patrons. Restrooms are also located at the Visitors' Center at the corner of South Main and Mechanic Streets and at the Locktender's House at the lower end of South Main Street.
