Boards & Commissions
The members of New Hope Borough boards serve without compensation, and members of some boards are required to live in the Borough (e.g., Zoning Hearing Board, Planning Commission, Civil Service Commission, Shade Tree Commission, and Park and Recreation Board). Other boards, such as the Revitalization Committee, the Historic Architectural Review Board, the Human Relations Commission, and the Uniform Construction Code Board of Appeals, allow a mix of residents and non-residents. Each board has an appointed term of office, and each appointment, regular or alternate, requires approval by Borough Council at a public meeting.

CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION prescribes, amends and enforces, subject to Council approval, rules and regulations for the recruitment, testing, selection, promotion, and removal of full-time police officers.
HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD protects historical areas within the Borough by reviewing all changes and modifications to the exteriors of buildings and structures that are visible from a public street or way in the Borough’s Historic District. For complete information on HARB policies, procedures, and applications, as well as locations of the New Hope Historic Districts, go to the HARB Page.
HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION enforces the Borough's law that prohibits discrimination in employment, housing and places of public accommodation, and promotes equal opportunity. Currently seeking new ways to increase community visibility of our existence, especially in the Hispanic community and by the parents of New Hope-Solebury students.
PARKS & RECREATION BOARD advises Council on matters pertaining to parks, open space, and recreation lands and programs, and the development, operation and maintenance of such lands. This Board coordinates a Gift Program for anyone wishing to make a donation with a name on it, in honor of, or in memory of a person.
PLANNING COMMISSION assists Council in preparing and updating the Borough’s Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance; and reviews and makes recommendations on zoning change petitions, subdivision and land development applications, and related land use matters.
REVITALIZATION COMMITTEE assists Council in identifying significant community needs, assessing available grant programs and other financial and community resources, and developing improvement projects and opportunities for economic development; and in preserving, enhancing and revitalizing the Borough’s infrastructure and wealth of natural, cultural, historic, and architectural resources. See the Committee's accomplishments for 2015 and tentative goals for 2016 in its Annual Report.
SHADE TREE COMMISSION regulates the planting, removal, and maintenance of street trees located on public streets and highways of the Borough. The Commission reviews applications for the removal and maintenance of street trees to safeguard the continued value to the environment and social contributions gained when trees are well maintained.
Chapter 52 "Ordinance on Shade Tree"
UNIFORM CONSTRUCTION CODE BOARD OF APPEALS functions as an appeals board for persons seeking relief from the requirements of the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code.
YOUTH AID PANEL provides an alternative to the juvenile court system in dealing with first time summary and misdemeanor offenders. The Panel works to prevent juvenile offenders from becoming more involved in delinquent activities and also makes the juvenile offender responsible for his/her actions through a specific service to the victim and the community. Appointments to the Panel are made by the Chief of Police.
ZONING HEARING BOARD serves as an appeals board for persons seeking relief from decisions of the Zoning Officer, and is empowered by state law to grant special exceptions and variances from the terms of the zoning ordinance.
