Maintenance
Maintenance problems on state highways should be reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) by using its toll-free Roadway Maintenance Hotline at 800-FIX-ROAD 800-349-7623). Dial 9-1-1 to report accidents, disabled vehicles, or other emergencies.
Safety Concerns
You can also report highway safety concerns, such as potholes, drainage issues or deer carcass removal, to PennDOT's Customer Care Center. A concern should not be submitted for immediate needs or issues that could create safety hazards, like missing signs or roadway hazards. If the concern requires immediate attention, please call 800-FIX-ROAD to be connected directly to the county maintenance office in your area.
Incident / Construction / Traffic Conditions
Motorists can check incident and construction information on more than 40,000 miles of state roads and current traffic conditions for 15,000 roadway miles by calling 511 or by visiting the 511PA website. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, average traffic speeds and access to more than 680 traffic cameras. Users may also opt to obtain traveler information on the phone by calling 511 from within PA and 877-511-PENN (7366) from outside PA.
In addition to the website and phone options, motorists can sign up to receive personal travel alerts via email and text messages. The alerts can be customized by roadway, time of day and day of the week.
Distracted Driving
The Just Drive PA website, features a “Distracted Driving” page highlighting Pennsylvania’s new anti-texting law and the dangers of distracted driving. Also included is information on various highway safety topics including impaired driving, motorcycles, young drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians, child-passenger safety, and much more.
